The Celebrant Storyteller - Graeme Bowman

When designing and planning for your special day, team up with one of Melbourne’s most experienced storytellers, writers, comedians and Masters of Ceremony. Over three decades of helping blue-chip clients create memorable, meaningful, fun events.

As a mature marriage celebrant and wedding MC, I draw upon an extensive professional background that ranges across speech-writing, presentation skills coaching, conference facilitation, comedy, hoax speaking and voice impressions.

A few highlights from my own journey:

  • appearances on TV variety shows
  • hundreds of comic hoax speeches at conferences and events, where I masquerade as a visiting international guru
  • introducing Peter Allen and Marina Prior at major events
  • writing for Paul Mercurio and other high profile figures
  • performing at the Melbourne Food Festival with Masterchefs, Gary Mehigan and Manu Feildel
  • working at 5-Star venues like Palazzo Versace, Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Crown, Langham, Leonda, Sofitel, Hilton, Windsor and Werribee Mansion.

I have a particular interest in working with folk who are keen to extend the storytelling role of the celebrant beyond their ceremony and into their reception. In my view, the overall experience for your guests should be a seamless one. And if the celebrant’s role continues into the reception, as Master of Ceremonies, this can avoid the disaster that often occurs when the running of the program is given to an immature DJ, loud-mouthed uncle or inebriated friend.

In my view the best weddings revolve around an engaging, creative story that explores the unique journeys of both partners, as individuals and as a couple. See my proven storytelling process in the video embedded in this page: Love, Life, Laughter: How Happy Couples Tell Their Story.

I feel my 64 years on this planet makes me most suited to weddings involving an extra layer of complexity eg second marriages, blended families, cross-cultural sensitivities, the recent loss of a loved one, or other circumstances that could potentially lead to awkward moments during a ceremony or reception. It’s also worth noting that my approach draws upon the insights I’ve gained as a funeral celebrant, where I’ve helped people navigate around difficult issues and complex family relationships. I have a proven ability to make diverse groups feel comfortable, relaxed and engaged – and to keep them focussed on what matters most: the celebration of your beautiful relationship.

Because of my extensive background dealing with high level clients and international audiences, I also suit couples and groups from the upper end of the corporate, government, professional and business worlds.
