Why same-sex couples should attend wedding showcases before Marriage Equality.

By Equally Wed - Posted on Monday, October 09, 2017

Spring is upon us and many venues are opening their doors for open days and inviting everyone in for a sneak peek of what their wedding day could look like. Yes, the law doesn’t currently allow same-sex marriage, however, why wouldn’t you attend wedding showcases now?

The law doesn’t stop you from planning your big day, and if you have questions that wedding venues and service providers can answer, why not start asking today?Well here are Equally Wed’s top 5 reasons to start looking now as opposed to rushing around like Ru Paul’s drag queens on the runway once same-sex marriage is passed. Hopefully a matter of weeks. #VoteYes

Question Time:
Wedding showcases offer you a chance to explore a venue in a more relaxed setting with the ability to talk to the staff openly. Generally, they will have wedding professionals (i.e. celebrants & photographers) there as well to help with any questions regarding their services and the formalities of the ceremony. You can not only get some advice but also ask for some tips at the same time. After all, you are talking to the experts.

Season:
If you are planning a wedding within the next couples of years, you may want to really spend some time at your venue of choice in the season you prefer. Popular venues may be booked for up to 12 months in advance, so if you really want that special place at the time of year you love you may want to book in advance and get to know the staff and venue via a showcase.
Peak Season: Are generally November & December as well as March.
Low Season: Often venues offer discounts during this time and if you could handle a change you could snag a bargain.

Vision:
Wedding showcases also tend to provide a vision of how the venue could be decorated, so popping into that venue with a marquee fully setup may give you real insight or inspiration on what can be achieved. Plus it also makes you think about a plan B if it rains.

Capacity:
It's hard to judge how it will feel when you are looking at an empty venue, so going to a showcase allows you to imagine the vibe/atmosphere with the space filled. If you choose the venue first it could also define the numbers for your wedding guest list.

Ideas:
There will be other couples there in the exact same position, with their own ideas who will be talking to the staff. You may find some of their ideas interesting and potentially even adopt a few along the way.

Don't forget whilst you are out talking to potential Venues or Suppliers at Wedding Showcases, please ensure you look for our Partner Badge to support those businesses who support Marriage Equality.
